Title: "Creating Ideal Conditions For Plant Growth with Air Tools and
Prescription Amendments"
Speaker: Jason Bond, Bartlett Tree Expert co.
PHC Technician
Description: Soil compaction in the root zone is one of the most
common problems
in the landscape and can lead to decreased vigor, pest infestation, and
disease. This presentation will
cover likely culprits and how to
ameliorate
the effects and increase vitality. The demonstration will
show how compressed air and specialized
equipment can be used in
your customers’ landscapes
for everyone’s benefit.

Title: Keystone Trees for the Mid Atlantic
Speaker: Bill Errickson
Description: Keystone trees perform essential ecological functions that
support
higher levels of biodiversity to
a greater degree than other plant
species. Many of the native tree
species that are currently being
grown and managed in the nursery
and landscape industries are
keystone species. These trees can
have a dramatic effect on
enhancing their surrounding ecosystems, including supporting
pollinator and bird populations. However, these important trees
each have specific site requirements and pest and disease
issues
that may require management in order to reach their full potential.
This presentation will focus on Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
strategies for keystone trees in our region, with an emphasis on
reducing impacts on beneficial insects.

management.
This talk will review the most common soil quality
problems
including pest and diseases, what causes them, and how to
diagnose
and safely treat them to create and maintain a thriving and

Title: The Art & Science Behind Basic Tree Risk Assessment
Speaker: Neil Hendrickson Ph.D.
Description: Many trees are removed for irrational reasons. The ISA’s Tree Risk
Assessment
Qualification (TRAQ) has provided a systematic
approach,
including simple principles from engineering and physics,
to
make tree risk assessment more logical, and easy to understand
and
apply. TRAQ is the industry standard for tree risk assessment,
and all green industry professionals
can benefit from understanding
this systematic approach to
qualifying risk including pest and
diseases. This talk will
discuss introduce its format and how you can
better understand your customers’
needs.
2-3pm
Title: Interesting and Under-utilized Trees in the Landscape
Speaker: Steve Chisholm Jr.,
Aspen Tree Expert Company
Description: This talk will focus on great, under-utilized trees
for New Jersey
landscapes.
By increasing the diversity of our plant palette, we can
harden
our landscapes to increasing insect and disease pressures.
Steve will instruct on some
of the trees he has experienced over his
many years in the industry
which have great attributes, but we aren’t
using enough in the landscape.
He will discuss what insects and
diseases that these under-utilized
trees can help eliminate from your
landscape.
