Title: A Balanced Approach to Your Fall IPM Program Speaker: William Errickson, PhD Speaker Bio: William Errickson, PhD, Agriculture Agent III / Assistant Professor, County Extension Department Head Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. His background in plant physiology, ecology, and soil science forms the foundation for his role in the Nursery IPM Program. Bill also has experience in small farm management and holds a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from Rutgers University, a M.S. in Soil Science from the University of New Hampshire, and a B.S. in Biology from Stockton University. Talk Description: The days may be getting shorter, but the fall is still a great time to take action on some targeted pest control measures that can have positive impacts for next season. This talk will focus on best management practices to include as part of your fall IPM program including sanitation for pathogen reduction and fall applications of dormant oils to control overwintering insects and insect eggs. Proper scouting and reviewing notes from the season will provide information for accurate and effective pesticide management of the fall nursery or landscape. In some cases, this might mean leaving the leaves in place to foster beneficial insect populations, while in other situations, leaf removal may be warranted if there have been any disease issues. These distinctions will be discussed in the context of taking a balanced approach to ecological management during the fall season along with additional tools and resources for your IPM program.
