and what to do to avoid getting one.

9:00 am-10:00 am Speaker: Thomas Carman & Joseph Melillo, Melillo & Bauer Associates
Topic: From the Coast to the Urban Rooftop: The New Backyard for Multi-
Family Living
Description: With a continued shifting trend from the traditional single-family
home to the mixed use multi-family developments, the thought of outdoor living
must also evolve. Designing both public and semi-private spaces is of great
importance to the success of these new communities. Where space is limited
around the building, additional space is utilized on the rooftops of these mid and
high rise structures. In this presentation two Principals of the New Jersey based
Landscape Architectural firm Melillo + Bauer Associates will illustrate how they
have creatively dealt with creating spaces for people both on grade and on
rooftops in these types of developments. They will do a deep dive into 2 projects
that exemplify the necessary landscape strategies.
In this presentation attendees will learn the challenges associated with
development along a coastal environment and urban rooftop. The presenters
will share what they have learned over their years of experience and the
necessary design solutions to contribute to the continued success of these
projects.

Description: Annuals provide spectacular color and texture in the garden.
We now have some options for those who wish to grow Impatiens
walleriana with a couple of Down Mildew resistant varieties for the
coming years. There are however a multitude of annuals which offer
endless choices for your garden. These can be used in the landscape as
well as containers. We will view some of the tried and true as well as
some new selections for 2020.

those in the horticultural industry. From Green Roofs to Hydrangea Trails, Bruce
will discuss the new additions and the benefits they provide for the industry and
the community!

Topic: If you plant it, they (pollinators) will come
Description: Pollinators are very important to our success. This talk will
enlighten the attendees of the many attribute’s pollinators bring to the garden
and to us a people. We will discuss ecosystem creation and management and
plant varieties that are beneficial to pollinators. Sunset Farmstead is only a few
years old and they have seen the proof of “If you Plant it they will come” their
farm is covered with a variety of pollinators from spring through late fall.
Whereas just a few years ago it was a grass pasture for goats is now a pollinator
buffet and community.

Description: Learn about new or improved varieties of shade trees & trends in
their use. Pruning techniques and care of these landscape essentials will also be

3. CNLP Exam
The CNLP Exam will be given at 8:30 am.
If you plan to take the Exam and stay for the rest of SPS you must register for one of the above Tracks and pay full price. The Exams will be graded during the first half of the day and your score will be ready by lunch.
If you are only attending the Exam you need not register for SPS you must contact the NJNLA Office to secure a seat.
Refund Policy:
You may receive a refund up to 14 days prior to the event. Less than 14 days - NJNLA has already incurred costs for your attendance and no refund will be issued.
Registrations at Door:
There will be an additional $10.00 charged for registration at the door.
Please be on time! Late arrivals will not be eligible for pesticide credits, per DEP regulations.
