Presenter: Bill Errickson, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Monmouth County
Keystone trees perform essential ecological functions that support higher levels of biodiversity to a greater degree than other plant species. Many of the native tree species that
are currently being grown and managed in the nursery and landscape industries are keystone species. These trees can have a dramatic effect on enhancing their surrounding
ecosystems, including supporting pollinator and bird populations. However, these important trees each have specific site requirements and pest and disease issues that may require
management in order to reach their full potential. This presentation will focus on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies for keystone trees in our region, with an emphasis on
reducing impacts on beneficial insects.

Presenter: Steve Chisholm Jr.,, Aspen Tree Expert Company
This talk will focus on great, under-utilized trees for New Jersey landscapes. By increasing the diversity of our plant palette, we can harden our landscapes to increasing
insect and disease pressures. Steve will instruct on some of the trees he has experienced over his many years in the industry which have great attributes, but we aren’t
using enough in the landscape. He will discuss what insects and diseases that these under-utilized trees can help eliminate from your landscape.

Presenter: Bob Dolan and Mark Ware, Rainbow EcoScience
The Team from Rainbow EcoScience will report on what new pests and diseases they are seeing in New Jersey landscapes and how best to manage them safely. The talk
will focus broadly on the most common and treatable pests and diseases of woody landscape plants, in addition to new threats like Box Tree Moth and Beech Leaf Disease.
Presenter: Neil Hendrickson Ph.D.
Many trees are removed for irrational reasons. The ISA’s Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) has provided a systematic approach, including simple principles from
engineering and physics, to make tree risk assessment more logical, and easy to understand and apply. TRAQ is the industry standard for tree risk assessment, and all green
industry professionals can benefit from understanding this systematic approach to qualifying risk including pest and diseases. This talk will discuss introduce its format and
how you can better understand your customers’ needs.
Soil is critical to healthy plants but is often overlooked in landscape management. This talk will review the most common soil quality problems including pests and diseases,
what causes them, and how to diagnose and safely treat them to create and maintain a thriving and sustainable landscape, with reduced needs.
